Advertising Policy

Advertising Standards and Content Requirements

All advertising content on our platform must meet high standards of accuracy, honesty, and social responsibility. Advertisements must not contain false, misleading, or deceptive claims about products, services, or companies. We require advertisers to provide substantiation for any factual claims made in their advertisements and reserve the right to request additional evidence or third-party verification for certain types of claims.

Advertisements must be clearly distinguishable from organic content through appropriate labeling and formatting. We prohibit native advertising that could mislead users about the commercial nature of the content. All sponsored content, influencer partnerships, and paid promotions must include clear disclosures that comply with Federal Trade Commission guidelines and similar regulations in other jurisdictions.

Prohibited Advertising Categories and Content

We prohibit advertising for illegal products and services, including illegal drugs, weapons, counterfeit goods, and services that violate applicable laws. We also restrict advertising for certain legal but regulated products and services, such as alcohol, tobacco, gambling, adult content, and financial services, which may only be advertised in compliance with applicable laws and our additional requirements.

Advertisements may not promote discrimination, harassment, or violence against individuals or groups based on protected characteristics. We prohibit ads that promote dangerous or harmful activities, including self-harm, eating disorders, or illegal activities. Political advertising is subject to additional requirements, including advertiser verification, disclosure requirements, and content restrictions designed to prevent the spread of misinformation.

Targeting and Privacy Protections

Our advertising targeting systems are designed to respect user privacy while providing relevant advertising experiences. We prohibit discriminatory targeting based on protected characteristics in employment, housing, credit, and other sensitive categories. Advertisers may not target users based on sensitive personal information, such as health conditions, financial status, or sexual orientation, without appropriate safeguards and user consent.

We provide users with transparency and control over the advertising they see, including information about why they were shown particular ads and tools to customize their advertising preferences. Users can opt out of personalized advertising entirely, though they will continue to see non-personalized ads. We also provide tools for users to report inappropriate or offensive advertising content.

Advertiser Verification and Accountability

All advertisers must complete a verification process that includes identity confirmation, business registration verification, and compliance with our advertising policies. High-volume advertisers and those in sensitive categories must undergo additional verification procedures, including document review and, in some cases, site visits or phone interviews.

We maintain ongoing monitoring of advertiser accounts and advertising content to ensure continued compliance with our policies. Advertisers who violate our policies may have their ads disapproved, their accounts suspended, or their access to certain targeting options restricted. We also maintain databases of prohibited advertisers and monitor for attempts to create new accounts after suspension or termination.

Political Advertising and Election Integrity

Political advertising on our platform is subject to special requirements designed to promote transparency and prevent foreign interference in elections. Political advertisers must complete an enhanced verification process that includes identity confirmation, location verification, and disclosure of funding sources. All political ads must include clear disclaimers identifying who paid for the advertisement.

We maintain a public database of political advertisements that includes information about ad spending, targeting criteria, and the entities responsible for the ads. During election periods, we may implement additional restrictions on political advertising, including prohibitions on new political ads in the days immediately before elections to prevent the spread of last-minute misinformation.

Creative Standards and User Experience

Advertisement creative content must meet technical specifications and quality standards to ensure a positive user experience. We prohibit ads with excessive text, poor image quality, or misleading thumbnails that don't accurately represent the advertised content. Advertisements must not use sensational language, clickbait headlines, or manipulative tactics designed to exploit user emotions or vulnerabilities.

We require ads to load quickly and function properly across all devices and platforms. Interactive advertisements must not interfere with normal platform functionality or trick users into clicking unintended elements. Audio in advertisements must not auto-play without user consent, and video advertisements must include appropriate controls for user interaction.

Measurement and Analytics Transparency

We provide advertisers with detailed analytics about their advertising performance while protecting user privacy. Advertisers receive aggregated data about ad performance, audience demographics, and engagement metrics, but individual user data is never shared without explicit consent. We comply with privacy regulations and industry standards for advertising measurement and attribution.

Our advertising analytics are audited by third-party organizations to ensure accuracy and transparency. We provide clear documentation about how we measure and report advertising performance, including definitions of metrics and methodologies used for attribution. Advertisers can request additional verification of their advertising data through certified third-party measurement partners.
